My Voice Somali Organization (MVSO) is a non-profit organization devoted the empowerment of refugees and immigrants in Portland, Oregon and its vicinity. We
seek to educate them on how to achieve a prosperous life in their new-found
communities, while preserving their culture and identity; how to become
self-sufficient, as well as provide resources that meet their changing needs.
We aim to offer support services, provide motivation, counseling (with their
cultural needs in mind), general health education, substance abuse prevention,
and interpreting services (as a basis for communication in an effort to start
bridging the gap between refugee newcomers and social services for refugees and
immigrant youth). Through these efforts we hope to become a driving advocate
